Fund Manager

India Investment Partners Limited is the Fund Manager to the Company. India Investment Partners is a UK fund management company, regulated by the UK Financial Services Authority. It is owned by management and Caledonia Investments plc, a listed UK investment trust, which holds a 40% shareholding.

James Winterbotham, aged 51, is Chief Executive Officer. From 1982 to 1998 he worked at Lazard Brothers & Co. Limited in London, and was a board director from 1995. Between 1993 and 1995 he was posted to New Delhi as president of Lazard's Indian joint venture company, where he undertook a range of corporate finance assignments for Indian and foreign clients. In 1998 he left to establish India Advisory Partners together with Kai Taraporevala. Since then James and Kai have advised companies from Europe, the US and the Far East on M&A, corporate and fund investment in India.

David Cornell, aged 41, joined IIP in January 2010, and is the Fund Manager responsible for the day to day management of the Company’s assets. After leaving the British Army in 1995 he worked at Flemings and Salomons before joining BDT Investment Management Limited in 2004 to launch the BDT Global Emerging Market Fund. In April 2008 he moved to New Star Institutional Managers to co-manage the New Star Emerging Market Fund and the global equity portfolios’ growing exposure to emerging markets. David transferred to Henderson Global Investors along with the rest of the Emerging Market team following New Star’s acquisition by Henderson in early 2009.

Jeremy Pratt, aged 60, is Chief Operating Officer. and is responsible for ensuring that day to day operational matters for the Company are properly carried out by the Manager and the Administrators in accordance with the directions of the Board and the relevant regulatory requirements. He is a Chartered Accountant and has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry.

Investment Advisor

The Fund Manager receives research information and non-binding advice from India Advisory Partners Pvt Limited, based in Mumbai. The advisory team is led by:

Kai Taraporevala, aged 44. He spent nearly three years with Lazard India after graduating in December 1994 from INSEAD with an MBA, before setting up India Advisory Partners with James Winterbotham. At Lazard India he advised numerous international clients on India entry strategy and M&A transactions as well as assisting Indian companies in their overseas expansion. He has an MSc in Physics from IIT Delhi and an MS in Material Science from Dundee University, Scotland. He has advised on investments for the Company since its launch, and is an independent director on the Boards of certain investee companies.
